There’s is a Journey Rooted in Family, Hard Work and a Love for Arkansas
Ed and Dixie McSpadden’s story is one of passion, resilience, and a shared commitment to family and community. A native of Russellville, Arkansas, Ed first made his mark on the University of Arkansas campus as a member of the Razorback golf team. Following his collegiate years, Ed and Dixie embarked on an adventure, traveling across the country while Ed pursued a professional golf career.
After a few years on the road living in a fifth wheel and then an RV, the couple began planning for a future that balanced their professional ambitions with their desire to start a family. Ed decided to trade in his golf clubs to work alongside his father-in-law, Lex Wetzel, in northwest Arkansas during a significant construction boom. Through hands-on experience in commercial and residential construction, Ed discovered a passion for working with doors, architectural products and the joy of being outdoors.
Meanwhile, Dixie was thriving as an interior decorator, specializing in window treatments. Their shared interest in design and construction became a weekend endeavor, with Ed helping Dixie install blinds and draperies. This dynamic partnership proved to be a precursor to their future ventures. Together, they built their first home in Prairie Grove while also remodeling Ed’s college house in Fayetteville. These early projects honed their skills and deepened their confidence in designing, building, and decorating spaces.
A Return to Russellville and Expanding Horizons
In 2005, the McSpaddens returned to Ed’s hometown to become partners in the family business along with his parents, Roy and Troylynn McSpadden. Burris Office Supply and Furniture, which Ed’s grandfather, Troy Burris, founded had begun in 1953. The couple also embarked on a home-flipping project, using their talents in construction and design to transform spaces while growing their family. That same year, they welcomed their first child, Clara, into the world. With four children now in their family, including Chloie, Anna Kay and Mac, the McSpaddens’ lives revolve around faith, family and work.
Over the next two decades, Burris evolved far beyond its office supply roots. Ed and Dixie expanded the business to include Hunter Douglas residential and architectural window treatments, residential windows, commercial and residential doors, and more. The business is now known as In2 Construction. As the COVID-19 pandemic prompted a reevaluation of priorities, they simplified their business operations under a rebranded umbrella: In2.Market. Located in the heart of downtown Russellville, the marketplace now houses In2 Window and Door, Burris Construction, Burris Reprographics, and Buffalo River Log Homes.
A Lifelong Love for Arkansas and Log Homes
Ed’s connection to Arkansas runs deep, nurtured by childhood fishing trips with his grandfather and father and hiking expeditions along the Buffalo River with his father-in-law, Lex. These experiences instilled a love for the state’s natural beauty, particularly the upper Buffalo River. Over the years, Ed continued to share this passion with family and friends on fishing and floating trips.
Ed’s appreciation for Arkansas’ charm found new expression after a personal battle with leukemia. The fight to overcome cancer deepened his commitment to family time and his appreciation for life’s simpler joys.
“When you walk into an Honest Abe log home, it makes you want to slow down and gives you the sense of being on vacation,” Dixie observed. “It would be a joy to help others realize their dream of a log home where they can make memories with loved ones.”
Inspired by their experiences in log cabins and the quality craftsmanship of Honest Abe Log Homes, the McSpaddens added Buffalo River Log Homes to their portfolio. Their aim is to help others create spaces that offer comfort, tranquility, and lasting value.
From Here to the Horizon
Today, Ed and Dixie McSpadden balance their thriving businesses with their dedication to family. They continue to shape their community through quality craftsmanship and heartfelt service, building homes, memories and legacies in the place they’ve always called home: Arkansas.
